CAD and Design

I spent a full year and a half designing the boat in CAD before I started manufacturing it. I did this to make sure that all the systems in the boat had enough room, and that nothing was overlooked. Looking back after building it, it turned out quite well, though I wish I made a few compartments a bit larger.

Below is a rendering of the front of the boat. You can see the control panel with the steering wheel. In front of the control panel, there is the front engine compartment with a compressed air tank, electrical generator, high-power water pump, and gas tank.

This shows the main control panel (dashboard). In the front compartment there is a pneumatic tank with regulators and filters and an E-stop line drainage system. A gas tank is under pneumatic tank. The water pump is in red, and the generator is behind the water pump.

The image below shows a rendering of the engine compartment. The main engine I planned on using was a salvaged motor from the 1980s and doesn’t work (missing a part that can’t be procured anymore.) So I’m working on finding a brand-new engine while keeping the lower unit the same. You can also see the rudders on the back; for more details see the rudders page. Also, coming out of the bottom, you can see the maneuvering thrusters; for more details see the maneuvering thrusters page.

The video below shows a time-lapse of part of the design of the interior and structure of the hull. Note this time-lapse shows only the features that were kept; there were many more designs and ideas that were scrapped.

Here is an early concept of the hull structure. Much of the back didn’t change, but the front was changed significantly to be more easily manufactured.
